Language and Tools

Tools are utilized by humans for everything from preparing food to weaponry. Proficient tool use has been a symbol of mankind’s evolutionary progression and intelligence. A certain degree of cognition, social organization, and language are used in conjunction to make tools, use tools, and pass knowledge of tools on to future generations. It has been suggested that there are commonalities between the "neural and cognitive substrates of tool use and language." Though the transmission of simple tool-using techniques requires only imitation, complex "tool use in humans is integrated within a larger, linguistically transmitted technology."
